The Art of Relaxation on Safari

Posts by Category

In our fast-paced world, moments of stillness are rare, but in the heart of the South African bushveld, they are beautifully unavoidable. At Thornybush, we believe that safari is not just about the thrill of wildlife sightings; it’s also about reconnecting with oneself and finding a deeper kind of rest and sense of being. On World Relaxation Day, we invite you to embrace the art of doing nothing, safari-style. Picture this: waking up, being greeted by the stillness of the bush with sweet birdsong in the background, freshly brewed coffee, game drives that lull you into rhythm with nature, and afternoons spent lounging on your private deck as elephants wander by. Total Bliss! Our lodges are designed with peace in mind – spacious suites, soothing neutral palettes, and not to mention the ever-changing views as wildlife ambles past.  Enjoy a calming massage at our serene spas, unwind with a book by the pool, or sip a delicious G&T watching the sun dip behind the horizon.  Every experience at Thornybush is an invitation to slow down, exhale, and savour the now! On safari relaxation isn’t scheduled, it just happens naturally.  We can’t wait to welcome you to Thornybush so you too can practice the art of true relaxation. Here are 5 tips to recreate the Thornybush way at home until we see you on safari:
  • Bring Nature In: Open a window or sit outside in a green space. The sounds and sights of nature are a natural stress reliever.
  • Take a Tech Break: Put your phone down and enjoy a few quiet minutes with no distractions. Let yourself do nothing – guilt-free!
  • Watch the Sunset: Step outside, look out the window, or notice the changing light. Let the end of the day be a moment to pause and reflect.
  • Create a Mini Spa Moment: Light a candle, run a bath, or use your favourite body lotion. A little self-care goes a long way in helping you unwind.
  • Try a Moment of Meditation: Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and focus on your breath for just 2–5 minutes. You’ll be surprised how much calmer you feel.
