Enterprise Support

Enterprise Development Ventures

Thornybush supports community-owned enterprises that create jobs, strengthen local supply chains, and build long-term economic resilience in neighbouring communities. From agriculture and recycling to retail and emerging ventures, these projects help turn local skills, resources, and ideas into sustainable businesses with lasting community impact.

Thousand Herbs and Vegetable Garden

Community commerce

A community-led garden initiative growing fresh vegetables and herbs for local lodges and surrounding communities. Supporting food security, sustainable agriculture, and ecotourism, it is proudly owned and run by five women, empowering local entrepreneurship and strengthening livelihoods.

Hlayisani Nature Buy Back Centre

Conservation commerce

The Hlayisani Buy Back Centre is a pioneering model that bridges conservation and commerce — enabling community members to bring nature-based goods into a formal buyback system. It creates a direct economic link between environmental stewardship and household income, rewarding communities for conservation-aligned behaviour.

Magoveni Beehives

Honey production | Agri-enterprise

A community beekeeping initiative producing natural honey for local and commercial markets. The project builds agricultural skills, diversifies household income, and supports pollinator health in the greater Thornybush ecosystem.

Unity Agrifarm

Community food production

Unity Agrifarm cultivates food security and economic opportunity in tandem — producing crops for community consumption and local markets while building agricultural knowledge and cooperative working practices among participants.

Nduna Mabaso Farm Operations & Community Development

Farm operations | Skills | Community development

A multi-faceted farm operations project combining active agricultural production with broader community development goals — skills training, employment creation, and local food security.

Nourish Eco Village (RISE)

Food security | Employment | Education | Community Tours

Nourish bridges conservation and community across multiple pillars — education, food security, and employment. On the enterprise side, our partnership generates sustainable revenue through Community Tours, allowing Nourish to fund and maintain its own programmes. Nourish is a genuine cross-pillar venture: it appears in our Education portfolio for its early childhood and nutrition work, and here for its economic model and employment creation.

New & Exciting Things Coming

Ntsakiso Community Farm

Primary Cooperative Limited

New to the enterprise development portfolio is Ntsakiso Community Farm. This agricultural initiative focuses on strengthening food security and improving access to nutritious produce within local communities. By creating income-generating opportunities, it contributes to poverty reduction while supporting safer, more stable communities. Thornybush Community adopts the enterprise in 2026 with the aim of scaling production, building agricultural skills, and establishing a sustainable, community-led farming model that can supply both local households and nearby hospitality partners.

Nyakaza Farm

Agricultural enterprise

Nyakaza Farm is a small-scale agricultural enterprise focused on cultivating staple and nutrient-rich vegetables. While it has made steady progress, it continues to face challenges that limit productivity, including constrained water supply, inadequate fencing, limited farming equipment and business support. Thornybush Community adopts the enterprise in 2026 with the aim of expanding its production, strengthening food security, creating sustainable employment opportunities for youth and women and supplying local markets.
