Immersive Safari Walks

Activity Overview

Trails guided by Jack The Bearded Ranger

These longer walking journeys are designed for guests wanting to truly slow down and reconnect with the wilderness in a more meaningful and immersive way.

Led by Jack – better known to many guests as The Bearded Ranger – Thornybush guided walking trails are designed for those wanting to experience the wilderness on a deeper level.

These immersive walking journeys move beyond the traditional safari rhythm and into quieter corners of the reserve. The experience is not rushed. It is about slowing down, reading the landscape, following tracks through the sand, understanding animal behaviour, and reconnecting with the natural world step by step.

Jack’s passion for the bush, storytelling, tracking, and wilderness awareness shapes the experience into something far more personal and memorable than a standard bush walk.

Activity FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How long are the Guided Walking Trails?

Trails generally last several hours depending on the route, conditions, and lodge arrangements. Guests should speak to Reservations before their safari.

Guided Walking Trails are longer and more immersive, with a stronger focus on awareness, tracking, storytelling, and understanding the wilderness beyond traditional game viewing.

Jack’s Immersive Walks are available by prior arrangement and are subject to his availability. When making your reservation, let the team know you’d like to walk with Jack so they can add the request to your booking. If he is available during your stay, the walk can be confirmed in advance.

Guests should be reasonably comfortable walking in natural terrain for a longer period. Wear comfortable walking shoes, neutral clothing, and bring a hat, sunscreen, water, and a sense of curiosity.
